Sam Gabrielli moved to Charleston two years ago after spending his whole life in New England where he had been bartending in Boston for five years, cutting his teeth as Bar Manager of Russell House Tavern in Harvard Square.
Gabrielli fell in love with Charleston years prior and decided to pick up and leave for warmer weather. It was clear Charleston was booming in terms of F&B opportunities, and he was confident that he could learn new skills, and hopefully manage again after a couple of years.
“I was very fortunate to land the #1 job I wanted after a couple of weeks, which was to bartend at McCrady’s,” says Gabrielli. I learned an incredible amount of new stuff, from wine and food to standards of fine dining, a truly valuable experience. I then left McCrady’s to open Bar Mash a year later, chalking up another new experience. Now I have the best opportunity before me – to be the bar manager of the best cocktail bar (tough debate, for sure), and I couldn’t feel more fortunate for my time here in Charleston.”
